Thank You HAID 2011 Participants

Some selected photos of this year's HAID workshop have been posted on the Program page. The organizers would like to thank everyone who participated in any way, especially (but not only) the members of the Program Committee, the Poster Program Committee, the student assistants and other assistants from Ritsumeikan University, the invited speakers, the tutorial speakers, poster presenters, and plenary session presenters. Thanks to the hard work and productive exchange of new ideas and contacts, the conference was a success. Please check this site and the Twitter feed from time to time as we will post any information about subsequent HAID conferences.

Call for Participation

Today's highly competitive yet saturated market of computer entertainment and mobile communication systems creates an ever increasing demand for reconsidering the very foundations of user interfaces and information technologies enabling user-system interactions. In striving to find ways for dramatically improving both the efficiency and the usability of computer systems, researchers in academia and industry have been quick to recognize the importance of multimodal system interfaces, and the crucial role that diverse modalities can play. Since its inauguration in 2006, the International Workshop on Haptic and Audio Interaction Design (HAID) has been a notable international forum for discussing ideas, practical developments, and empirical observations related to novel aspects of the deployment of audio and haptic modalities in various user-system interaction scenarios. HAID 2011 continues the traditions of its five successful predecessors and aims to become a forum for discussing recent advances and challenges in the area of multimodal user-system interaction and user interface design.

This year's HAID workshop offers an excellent variety of speeches, lectures, presentations, demonstrations, poster sessions, and a chance to interact on a personal level with the researchers and participants active in these rapidly advancing fields of study. With an overall acceptance rate of 60%, each of the thirteen papers accepted for oral presentation was reviewed by an international panel of experts. As in the previous HAID meetings, the accepted papers will be presented orally and published as a volume of Springer's LNCS that will be distributed to the participants at the beginning of the workshop. In addition to the oral plenary session, over a dozen papers accompanying HAID 2011 posters and demonstrations will be presented in a special session. Two tutorials will precede the workshop, featuring detailed lectures on and demonstrations of cutting-edge haptic device SDKs. Invited speakers include the keynote speaker, Hiroyuki Shinoda, who will present a noncontact haptic interface -- a groundbreaking novel technology. There will also be two special lectures reporting on large-scale research projects in the relevant fields. Anyone interested in user interaction, affective engineering, multimodal interfaces, or human sensory systems is encouraged to participate in HAID2011.
